Search Engine Optimization for a Campaign site

Last week I attended a fundraising party. I was slightly bored, so left early.

After reaching home I thought of donating some money to the guy but was not aware of his campaign site so I tried searching his name in www.google.com. I got some information about him, not a whole lot, but the worst thing was I couldn’t locate his site.

I am not sure if his site is search engine optimized or not. If he gets it optimized, the site can be listed in all major search engines or directories, and if it’s not optimized then it will be really difficult for us to locate the campaign site.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search Engine Optimization is the most inexpensive way of effectively driving traffic to your site. It means coding and using the right keywords in the content to position your site among the top search engine results. That is where your constituents begin their research.

How Search Engine Optimization is done?

  • First step is to analyze the campaign website.
  • Develop a list of keywords specific to the campaign site
  • Carry out expert analysis of keywords developed (To know how many people have used similar keywords for the last one month in different Search Engines while searching for such campaign site).
  • Adopt/Change the keywords according to the analysis.
  • The optimizer sends the keywords to you for your approval/ feedback, as you know your site, best.
  • Once the keywords are frozen, develop Title Tags, Meta Tags, Description and Alt Tags and upload them to the campaign site.
  • A status report is generated with specific keywords to know where the campaign site stands in different search engines (it acts as the base line).
  • Once the site is functional, submit it to Major Search Engines with any automated tool, and manually submit it to Major Search Engine Directories like www.Yahoo.com & www.Dmoz.org
  • After this we wait and see. It can take anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months. In this period search engines send their Crawlers / Robots to check the sites and if they find it relevant then they list it.
  • Once the site is listed, depending on the optimization, the rank will increase with each passing day.
  • You should aim for your site to be in the first page of search results, preferably in the top three results.
  • You don't need major marketing if you are among the top 3. You will get the required hits and if you are updating your site with new updates then you have a fair chance of winning the election.

Give Search Engine Optimization a try and see how your online campaigning site attracts potential voters.
All the best for your campaign!
